Oil Booms
Oil containment booms need carefully joined fabric sections and reinforced details for deployment, retrieval and repeated handling on the water.
Welding solutions for oil containment booms
Boom fabrication brings together flexible skirts, flotation sections and connection areas. Forsstrom provides welding solutions for suitable PVC and thermoplastic polyurethane-coated materials used in containment equipment. The boom design, coating and seam geometry determine the joining process. Production trials help assess the required seam strength and, where applicable, air retention in inflatable flotation chambers.

No. Inflatable flotation chambers need verified air retention, while skirts and other sections have different seam requirements. The boom construction determines which joints need leak testing and which need particular strength, flexibility or reinforcement.
Layer thickness, coating compatibility and the shape of the reinforcement affect heat input, pressure and tooling. Connection areas may see different loads from long skirt seams. Evaluate representative multilayer samples and the intended joint layout before setting production parameters.
